Overview
SPIE Power Services delivered comprehensive maintenance services for the Loy Yang Mine in Traralgon, Victoria, for AGL across an 11-year contract from 2010 to 2021. We maintained the critical coal and overburden handling infrastructure that supported one of Australia's largest baseload generation facilities.
The challenge
The Loy Yang Mine operates some of the most complex and heavy-duty equipment in the Australian energy sector. AGL required a maintenance partner capable of servicing high-volume dredgers, extensive conveyor systems, and critical ancillary infrastructure, while maintaining a strong safety record and stable industrial relations in a demanding operational environment.
Our approach
We embedded a dedicated, site-based team to deliver routine and breakdown maintenance across the full scope of mine plant and equipment. We introduced the BetterWays program — a structured initiative to systematically improve safety practices and workforce productivity — and maintained a strong focus on positive community engagement throughout the contract.
The solution
Our team provided end-to-end maintenance across high-volume coal and overburden dredgers, rising conveyors, storage bunkers, transfer stations, bunker discharge wagons, and fire services. By combining technical excellence with a stable industrial relations environment, we delivered consistent performance over more than a decade of operation.
