Overview

SPIE Power Services was engaged by AGL to complete the critical decommissioning scope for the Liddell Power Station in New South Wales. We provided comprehensive mechanical isolation, hazardous waste removal and industrial cleaning to prepare the legacy coal-fired facility for safe, large-scale demolition.

The challenge

Retiring a major thermal power station carries significant environmental, safety and scheduling risks. AGL required an experienced partner to safely isolate the plant's massive mechanical systems and manage hazardous materials without delaying the critical path of the incoming demolition contractors.

Our approach

We deployed an expert decommissioning team operating on a 24/7 roster to meet the customer's aggressive timeline. We took complete responsibility for HSE management across the site, safely executing the draining of systems, hazardous waste removal, and the disposal of warehouse stores.

The solution

By working closely with AGL and understanding the exact requirements of the demolition phase, we minimised the required scope and achieved the optimal end-state for the facility. Our rigorous safety frameworks ensured high-risk activities were completed efficiently and without incident.

Key outcomes

What the project delivered
